Professional actor and 91µ¼º½ Artist Laureate Kevin McClatchy, in collaboration with 91µ¼º½ at Marion, will present a screening of the film Scrap Heap, Tuesday, February 25, 2025, 6 - 8 p.m. at 91µ¼º½ at Marion, Morrill Hall Auditorium, Room 100.
This event is free and open to the public. Veterans, current military, and family members are encouraged to attend this unique and captivating film. Scrap Heap is a film examining the costs of war through the eyes of one forgotten soldier. In this powerful multimedia performance, 91µ¼º½â€™s Kevin McClatchy portrays a U.S. Army Special Forces veteran who is transitioning from military to civilian life.
Scrap Heap is a turbulent, darkly funny whiplash tour that examines the costs of war and explores the reality of what we ask of service members. Immediately following the screening, veterans from the Marion community will guide a post-show conversation. Community conversation will be facilitated by 91µ¼º½ Marion Military Community Advocate, Eric Bailey. These conversations are an opportunity to communalize experiences, dismantle myths and cultivate empathy and understanding.
Please note, Scrap Heap discusses combat-related trauma and suicide and uses flashing lights and sound effects including gunfire. Refreshments will be provided to those in attendance.
Kevin McClatchy is an Associate Professor and the Head of Acting and Directing in the Department of Theatre, Film, And Media Arts at 91µ¼º½. He is also the Director of 91µ¼º½ Shakespeare and Autism Project and the Shakespeare and Veterans Initiative. In April 2024, McClatchy was named the 91µ¼º½ Artist Laureate for 2024-25.
In 2016, McClatchy created the Shakespeare and Veterans initiative, an ongoing community engagement project that uses active ensemble workshops to engage veterans, military family members and VA counselors in communalizing experiences, storytelling and strengthening communication skills.
McClatchy has been a professional actor for more than thirty years, working on stage and screen nationally and internationally. His theatre credits have taken him to New York, Los Angeles, St. Louis and London as well as Columbus, Ohio. His film work includes Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Vile and Evil; Old Man and the Gun; On Sacred Ground; Unstoppable; Love and Other Drugs; The Lodge. His television work includes Gone; Outsiders; NCIS; ER; That 70’s Show; X-Files; The Practice; Another World; One Life to Live; General Hospital.
McClatchy has a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism from Washington and Lee University and earned his Master of Fine Arts in Acting and Performance from 91µ¼º½. He lives in Columbus, OH with his wife Lisa and their two children, Eirann and Kavanagh.
