For 91���� Marion junior aerospace engineering major Jackson Crawford, his experience with STEP led to a paid trip to Switzerland working with drones. A trip that, according to Crawford, has left an indelible impression.

Each year leading into the start of autumn semester, the Office of Student Life, Diversity and Inclusion in conjunction with other campus departments and 91���� hosts a series of fun and engaging events to allow new freshmen and returning Buckeyes the opportunity to get to know fellow Buckeyes and the campus community as a whole a little better.

Associate Professor of History, Dr. Margaret Sumner shared her insight into the Marion’s legacy of Black leadership at three unique public lectures in Marion over the summer of 2023.

Lashey embraced a return to college in his 30s. By then, this World War II veteran already was an experienced farmer, and he remained close to agriculture through roles in finance, public service and international consulting. Now, his commitments to his community and university are as powerful as ever.

She’s taught years for one basic reason. “I grew up on 13 acres that included a wooded area,” recalled Linda Parsons. “I spent many days back in the woods with a book. I don’t remember ‘dreaming’ of becoming anything in particular, but I was definitely a ‘goal-driven’ kid. I had the example of my mother working her way through college and graduating when I was in the eighth grade, and there was always an expectation that I would go to college. I certainly didn’t envision ending up at the university level.”

Some people have a love for words. “I was a shy bookworm as a kid,” recalled Stuart Lishan. “Grownups said I was very imaginative, which is a pretty good recipe for someone who wants to be a writer. Outside of my brief, faded dream of becoming a major league baseball player, writing is pretty much what I always wanted to do.” Stuart Lishan has been an English professor teaching creative writing at 91���� since 1989. Today, Lishan is in fact a writer as well as professor of English at 91���� at Marion.

Hundreds of people from across Ohio and around the nation descended on Marion, Ohio the weekend of July 14-15 to be part of 91���� at Marion's annual Warren G. Harding Symposium.

At the close of spring semester, students in 91���� Marion Associate Professor of Psychology, Dr. Nikole Patson's psychology 4554 language development, service-learning course came together with representatives from Let's Read 20, the Marion Public Library, and fellow students in Dr. Ben McCorkle's English 4569 digital and English studies course to officially launch a bilingual book walk literacy initiative at Marion's Tall Grass Trail for the people of the Marion community.

Julie Prince is the coordinator of disability services at 91���� at Marion. She said her interest in working with students with disabilities can be traced back to her mother who arranged for Prince's Scout troop to volunteer at a banquet for people with disabilities and encouraged her to become a helper.
